Mission:
The Gaspesian British Heritage Village was opened in the summer of 1989 with a mission is to foster mutual understanding among the many Quebec communities, especially the Mi'gmaq, French and English, by showcasing the history and culture of English Speaking Community of the Coast and their contribution to the development of the region.
The Village:
The idea for the Gaspesian British Heritage Village was born in 1984 when the bicentennial of the Loyalists' arrival on Gaspé soil was celebrated.
The Village has evolved into the best place to encounter the Gaspesian Mosaic, there is no better place to meet the diversity of people who settled on the Coast: Mi'gmaq, Acadian and English speaking. Currently, the Gaspesian Village is undergoing a small renaissance with its emphasis on community encounters in a 'Living Village' - while this concept is still in development it enables locals and tourists alike to explore the proud history and present day reality of cooperation that has characterised inter-communal realtions in the New Richmond area.
Located on 82 acres of field and woodland, the Village offers a peaceful trip through time with 24 historic buildings occupied by local artisans, students and assorted community participants. Take a ride on the horse cart, admire the farm animals, and explore quiet forested paths leading to a heritage lighthouse and picnic on the beach.
